A Fun and Engaging RomCom -- Full of Laughter and Spark

Unleashing Mr. Darcy was an enjoyable, lighthearted book that was just plain fun to read. This book is a modernized version of Pride and Prejudice, but the story feels fresh and original because of the setting -- the characters participate in the professional dog show circuit, and the tale takes place in both New Jersey and London. I enjoyed Ms. Wilson's writing style and the way she presented the dialogue between Mr. Donovan Darcy, the hero, and Ms. Elizabeth Scott, the the heroine. The author keeps the banter between the hero and heroine fun and interesting -- so much so that I found myself smiling whenever these two were in the same room. The author tells the story in alternating POVs, which is nice because you can see how both characters start to fall for the other. The story stays very character-focused with fun secondary characters surrounding them. I felt they provided depth to the story, not just comedic relief.
Although this book takes place in a modern setting, it had an "old world romance" feel. I thought this gave it a whimsical quality, which I liked. If you are looking for a fun romance that will make you smile, I think Unleashing Mr. Darcy fits the bill. It's an engaging read that's fast-paced and well written. I'm very excited it has been made into a Hallmark movie and I'm looking forward to watching it! What romance reader doesn't like to see brooding Mr. Darcy fall in love?

Adorable dogs and a HOT British Hero!

I have never read or seen Pride and Prejudice. I can just go by this book. Which I ABSOLUTELY LOVED! AMAZING!!! Who doesn't love a beautiful setting. A HOT, SEXY guy with an accent and adorable DOGS and PUPPIES!!! This girl does. Which is why I left it in my TBR pile. I wanted to savor and enjoy it! Then, I found out it was going to become a Hallmark movie and had to make sure I read it before the 23rd air date. It was BEYOND my expectations! NO WONDER Hallmark wanted to make it a movie. The Heroine Elizabeth Scott and Hero Donovan Darcy have SIZZLING HOT chemistry. The secondary character's are wonderful as well, and the setting! You feel like your there! And AGAIN! ADORABLE Dog's. You might think, a romance set at a dog show? But you really have to read it to get it. It is so much more! There were parts between Donovan and Elizabeth that had me teary eyed. Always the sign of a great writer. The love scene was sweet, romantic and tender. I just loved everything about this book. It was fast paced, I couldn't put it down because I had to know what happened next, but was sad to see it end. Also the sign of a terrific writer.

Unleashing Mr. Darcy is a book that arrived in my hands at precisely the right moment. I was in the mood for something fluffy (pun intended), and this story delivered. It was an entirely adorable and sweet take on the tale of Pride and Prejudice!
I only read the original Pride & Prejudice in 2010, but it's one of those classic novels that I truly enjoyed. The way Austen so clearly defines the relationship that Darcy and Elizabeth have, riddled with judgment and pride as it may be, is done beautifully. The same tense, push-and-pull relationship is showcased in Unleashing Mr. Darcy, albeit executed with a lighter hand.
This is easily one of the most enjoyable romances I've read. It certainly has a good amount of swoon, but it's generally how reading about Elizabeth and Darcy made me feel utterly happy that got to me. I was, obviously, rooting for them from beginning to end! I was dying during each of their interactions, and so invested in their story. Even though readers will know what the outcome is from the beginning, how they get to that point is really what makes this book fun.
It's the dogs that make Unleashing Mr. Darcy extra delightful. It was an interesting choice for this updated version of P&P, but it certainly worked. Reading about the dogs - from grooming, to walking, to shows, and so much more - was a bonus to an already cute story. Plus, it doesn't hurt that both Elizabeth and Darcy love dogs and that helps them understand each other a little bit better too!
Unleashing Mr. Darcy is a great take on a classic tale. Even though the characters are simply updates from the originals, the story was charming (and certainly had me swooning). This is definitely the book for the reader looking for something light, fluffy and fun to read.
