A lot of things in this older edition book are pretty outdated, for example

I passed this class and am now going to EMT this fall with the help of this book. A lot of things in this older edition book are pretty outdated, for example, you don't perform CPR on water if a patient is floating. If your instructor is competent, he should be able to inform you on what is outdated and what's not to you.
I bought my EMT (Prehospital Emergency Care 9th and 10th editions)book, and this book seems to be the solid foundation of the course. It feels like 80% of what you learn in this class, you'll learn in EMT. Th main difference is that EMT is more in depth, however, this book certainly makes studying EMT a lot more bearable. I HIGHLY recommend taking an EMR course before taking an EMT course, if at all possible. Like I said, the skills you learn as an EMR and as an EMT are basically the same. Many institutions don't offer EMR courses, or don't require an EMR card to take an EMT-B class.

Essential book to first response

This book became my life when I was taking my EMT class. Read pretty much every part of it. But that was many years ago, wish I remembered everything in here! Very informative and easy to read. Buy it if you want to save lives.
