A Home Run!

I bought this book for my husband because he's been stressed out, feeling overwhelmed at work, and just kind of down. He's been seeing a therapist, which has helped, but I thought this book, with "sport" in the title, would really appeal to him. Plus, I have to be honest, I love the cheerful bright yellow cover. My husband has been using some of the techniques in the book, like breathing, self-talking, and visualization, and his mood and outlook have improved immeasurably!! So...I started reading it and it's AMAZING! The author uses his work with elite athletes as a framework to show how to do better and feel better in everything you do, from working to parenting to socializing. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve their life and their outlook.

This book is outstanding. Dr. Fader's writing has a conversational feel that makes the reader feel very much like you're talking with him rather than reading. He does a great job of combining quality sport psyc concepts with quotes and stories that add to the reading experience. As someone relatively new to the sport psyc profession, I am always looking for quality material to read. This is one of the best out there in my opinion. There is a simplicity to the writing without sacrificing quality of actual psyc content that is difficult to attain. Great read!

So many "self help" books provide platitudes and Hallmark card affirmations that leave the reader feeling good in the moment but provide little information to act upon. "Life as Sport" is filled with evidenced based techniques and information described by some of the worlds elite performers, which is in turn distilled and presented in readily accessible terms by the author. Dr. Fader has written this book in a conversational way, the simplicity of which belies the richness and complexity of the information. It is no wonder that individuals and organizations committed to excellence seek his counsel and it is certainly generous that Dr. Fader has provided this information to the rest of us so generously through this outstanding book.
